Matthew's obituary
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Matthew Fielder on January 27, 2026. Matt was born in Fort Myers, Florida, on September 4, 1973. As a child, Matt enjoyed and played all sports, particularly football and baseball. He graduated from Florida State University in 1995 and was a lifelong Florida State Seminoles fan. Upon graduation, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he pursued a career in real estate loan processing and started a family. He was a loving father to his two children, Will and Emily. He was an outgoing, fun-loving guy whose greatest passion outside his family was the game of golf.
Matt’s Christian faith was important to him. He had recently moved to North Carolina where he was excited about pursuing a new career path in the social services field with the Western North Carolina AIDS Project. He was a faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous whose greatest pleasure was helping others achieve a life of sobriety. His smile, kindness and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those he left behind.
Matthew is lovingly remembered by his children, Will and Emily, both of the Atlanta area, as well as by his parents Anne and Brian Turner of West Virginia and Bob Fielder of Fort Myers, Florida, and his sisters Elizabeth Fielder and her husband Phil Handley of Atlanta, and Lydia Turner and Ilona Turner and her wife Jackie Hemann of California. Matthew was blessed with an extended family, including his beloved aunts and uncles Betty and Tom Richardson and Mary Lou and Wright Poffenberger, as well as dear cousins and nieces and nephews. He also had a large community of friends and colleagues.
Matt’s life will be celebrated on May 2nd at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 7049 Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch, Georgia. A reception will follow. All who wish to bid farewell to Matt are welcome to attend.
We pray for peace and comfort for all who mourn Matthew’s loss.
