Matthew's obituary
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Matthew Duren. He was a man with an unmatched sense of humor, loads of charisma, and someone who displayed incredible kindness. Matthew, remembered by all for his sharp wit and compassion, was born on August 12, 1963; and passed away on October 10, 2024 from Pancreatic Cancer, only three weeks after his diagnosis.
Matthew's life was marked by many achievements. He made things happen--if he had a passion for it, he made it a reality. Working at Gladding & Hearn was one of his greatest joys as he was able to spend his days on the water with boats. He lived in many states throughout his life including California, Tennessee, and Maine before settling in Somerset, Massachusetts. However, the roles that brought him the most joy were those of being a father and grandfather. His daughters Kathryn and Abbigail were his greatest pride, and he adored spending time with his granddaughter Mila.
Matthew, a lover of all things nature, had a particular fondness for catching sunsets, boats, and the ocean. He loved traveling the country and the sea, visiting new places for work. He was a continuous donator to Wounded Warriors and St. Jude's Hospital throughout his life. He loved his truck, trips to the park with his granddaughter, and the simpler things in life. He appreciated the quiet, peaceful, contemplative moments gifted to him by the sun, moon, sea, and stars.
He is survived by his daughters Kathryn and Abbigail, his granddaughter Mila, and his sister Stephanie Duren. Matthew's memory will live on in their hearts and in the hearts of all who knew him. His empathy towards others, his devotion to his family, and his commitment to helping others are the cornerstones of his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being collected for "St. Jude's Children's Hospital", an organization close to Matthew's heart. To contribute, please visit the following site: https://everloved.com/life-of….
