Matt's obituary
Matthew "Matt" William Duffy, 52, previously of Newark, DE, and most recently residing in Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023.
Born in Wilmington, DE, in July 1971, Matt was the beloved son of Eileen and William "Bill" Duffy. Growing up in Newark, DE, alongside his elder brother, Patrick Duffy, Matt was a proud graduate of Newark High School's Class of 1989. With a talent for the trade, Matt became a master electrician, but it was his infectious enthusiasm for Philadelphia sports and his role as a devoted father that defined him.
Despite facing personal challenges with addiction, Matt's affection and gratitude for his family remained unwavering. Treasured memories were created as he took his children to their grandparents' beach house every summer weekend, teaching them to fish, tube, and find humor in the simplest moments. A visit to the Phillies games or the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk with his children was always an event, with Matt braving rides despite his weak stomach, just to see them smile. Sundays were reserved for Eagles games, a tradition he cherished with his father. Growing up, and even in his adult years, he enjoyed snow skiing, roller skating, fantasy football, playing the electric guitar, and his PlayStation.
His charm, wit, and intellect were unparalleled, leaving a void in the hearts of numerous friends and family. Now in eternal rest, Matt is reunited with his mother, Eileen Duffy, in Heaven. He leaves behind his father, Bill Duffy; children, Ashley (Cole), Trevor, Rachel, and Kaydence; grandson, Luke; brother, Patrick Duffy, his husband Juan and their four children; loving girlfriend, Kelly Ferguson; and a host of aunts, cousins, and friends.
Please join us in celebrating Matt's life on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W Park Pl, Newark, DE 19711. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM, with the memorial service commencing at 10:00 AM. A burial at All Saints Cemetery will follow, where Matt will be laid to rest close to his mother.
Rather than flowers, the family suggests donations to Attack Addiction, established in Matt's memory.
