Mattheus's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mattheus Kaspers on July 2, 2024. He was known affectionately as Thys to family but most knew him as either Dutchie or Dutch. Born on April 8, 1945, He is survived by his wife of 48years (July 19,1975) Loretta, daughter Tawny (Glenn), son Troy (Cindy), grandsons, T.J. (Carly)(Great granddaughter Brooke), Randy (Samantha ), granddaughters Sydney, Katelyn, and his Sisters Nellie, Jokie (Tony), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dutch was predeceased by parents Mattheus and Joanna Kaspers, and his sister Willie Koers.
Dad began work in 1962, in Port Renfrew, for BCFP performing whatever job was needed and operating any machine that he could find. He moved to Shoel Islands Log Sort, in 1978, where he stayed until retiring at the age of 60. Although Dutch was challenged with various physical obstacles as he aged, he continued to enjoy being an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. With a great deal of passion and tenacity, Dad discovered he had an aptitude for carpentry and landscaping that made him popular with the residents of the Modular Home Park that mom and he retired too. He travelled far and wide in order to experience different people and cultures and always left having more friends than he arrived with. Some of his greatest joys were looking after Troy and Cindy's small hobby farm, spoiling the grand children when visiting, and entertaining all his neighbours in CrestII.
We will be hosting a casual memorial for Dutch in early Fall. The notifications will be communicated in August. In the mean time, Please consider a donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation in leu of flowers.
We believe Dutch is looking down on us now with his arm around his best friend Danielle, laughing and making as much noise and trouble as they can. He will be forever missed and the hole he has left will take a long to heal. As we say goodbye, we honor Thys' life and celebrate the enduring impact he had on everyone who was fortunate to know him.
