Matt's obituary
Matthew Robert Newman passed away unexpectedly May 6th, 2024 at the age of 38. A beautiful, promising life cut far too short. We are devastated by the loss and will feel his absence forever.
He will always be remembered by his Mother Tami (Tesch) Newman; Sister and Brother in law, Lauren and Nick Stryker; his precious Daughter Rowan Holzknecht; Nieces Layla and Nadia Stryker; Uncle Doug Tesch; Aunt Linette Tesch; Cousins Jenna, Kayla and Jack Tesch; Great-Aunt Joyce Flanagan. Countless friends and lives whom he touched. Waiting to embrace Matthew were his Grandparents Dick and Bette Tesch; Jerry and Kay Newman (Voss).
Matt was an enthusiastic student from the beginning. Wise beyond his years. He proudly knew the Twins roster at 15-months, and recited full Disney stories at 2. Anything that he was interested in he wanted to know EVERYTHING about! He graduated from University of St. Thomas May 2010 with a Bachelor's in Business Communications. He was an avid reader with a genuine love for books. I still have Little Turtle's Big Adventure memorized, we read it so many times.
Matt was most in his element outdoors. He had a passion for fishing before he was 2. He was never long without a pole in his hands. Alaska, Canada, Dakotas, Florida, Minnesota, Montana - any lake, river, stream or ocean - Matt was ready to drop a line! He taught all the girls how to fish and to share his passion. The Three Rivers Park system provided many hours of enjoyment growing up and throughout his life—introducing the new generation to all the joys of the great outdoors. There wasn't much better than a day's hike foraging, eagle watching, and skipping rocks. We will feel his spirit with every soaring eagle -- UNCO EAGLE!!
Matt never owned a tv or a computer (after college) - reluctantly evolving to an iPhone only in the past few years. Preferring to spend his time listening to music and podcasts. Crafting was the indoor activity that he enjoyed most. A self-taught beader he painstakingly created beautiful gifts for us all. He took up painting in recent years and soon mastered that as well. Matt loved creating and patiently guided the girls through many art projects. Some we will need to make sure we finish.
Matthew leaves an incredible legacy of kindness and that loving spirit will live on in all of us. No more so than in his beautiful daughter Rowan who he loved and cherished more than anything in the world. We will be celebrating Matthew and his life, be it all too soon.
We invite family and all friends to join us in his Celebration of Life on Friday, June 21st - 1:30pm to 3:30pm at French Lake Park, Skyview Pavillion - 12605 Rockford Rd. Plymouth, MN 55441.
