Matias Peace, age 32, passed away on March 28, 2023 in Crown Point, Indiana. He was born on January 3, 1991 in Chicago Heights, IL to Betty Wilson and Marcus Peace. He graduated from Rich East High School in Spring 2009 and went on to attend Iowa Central University in Fall 2009.

Matias was a dedicated and hardworking husband and father. Matias carried on a familial career path when he started his career at the United States Postal Service in 2012 as a Postal Carrier. Matias's management, operational, and communication skills helped him rise through the ranks and he was promoted to Supervisor. He was on the path to becoming a Post Master within the next year.

Matias's love for his family was evident in everything he did. He had a contagious smile that lit up any room he walked into, and his humor, intellect, and sarcasm helped him stand out in a room. Matias was an exceptional provider for his family and was always willing to go the extra mile for them. Despite the distance, he would travel via three buses and then by foot for a mile every day to make it to work when he first started his career with USPS. Matias learned to appreciate family and the time you have with family at an early age. He loved the family that he and Rachel created and valued nothing more than his girls. His infectious spirit drew people towards him, and he made a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. His presence demanded that you show up as your best and truest self. If you couldn’t handle that you were probably uncomfortable around Matias and his light. He was a shining example of authenticity, love, and humor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The world is quieter without his laughter. Rooms are dimmer without his light. Jokes aren’t as funny without his wit. Politics aren’t as interesting without his opinion. Gatherings aren’t as complete without his presence but we keep laughing, joking, debating, and gathering because we know it’s what he would want us to do. Matias would want us to live because that’s what he did. Despite the losses he experienced at an early age, Matias found reasons to live and keep living. He found his passions, spoke with intention, and made sure to laugh and spread laughter. They say you don’t die until the last person says your name, the least we can do is speak Peace when we find our passions, speak Peace when we speak with intention, speak Peace when we laugh and spread laughter. That way we start a generational habit that spreads Peace long after Matias’ passing.

Matias was preceded in death by his father, Marcus Peace, mother, Betty Wilson, and brother, Shawn Davis and nephew Amari Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Peace, their four daughters: Romance, Royalle, Rhylan, and Maasai, his brothers, Eric Wilson and Iman Zollicoffer, his sister, Tish Billups, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins.
