Mary Lynn Adamczyk (née Bily), 90, of Elmhurst Illinois, formerly of Bensenville and Evanston, Illinois, died at her home on April 29th, 2024, of natural causes. She is survived by her spouse of sixty-six years, Michael P. Adamczyk and her brother James M. (Rose) Bily of Ashville, NC. Also survived by her children Mark (Beverly), Thomas, Joan, David (Ching), John (Margaret), Peter and Matthew, and nine grandchildren. Her sisters Dorothy Scott and Eleanor Bayer, and her son Philip died before her. There will be a memorial celebration of her life on June 8th, 2024. Mary Lynn, born Margaret Irene Bily on October 19th, 1933, spent her entire life in the Chicago area. She met her husband, Michael Adamczyk, when they were both young, passionate music students at DePaul University. Their love story blossomed through music, and they built a life together, raising eight children with unwavering devotion.
Throughout her adult life, Mary Lynn found joy in her work as a church organist and choir director. The music she and Michael played together filled their home with warmth, whether it was classical piano duets or the lively rhythms of Gershwin. Their love of music and art was a gift they passed on to each of their children, enriching their lives immeasurably.
Mary Lynn was not only musically talented but also intellectually curious and well-read. Her love for mystery novels led her to devour the Elmhurst Library’s collection from A to Z. She had a sharp mind and a wealth of knowledge on various topics. Her opinions were always thoughtful and well-considered, although she was too polite to impose them on others. Whether discovering impressive or less impressive authors, she found value and joy in the experience. Her curiosity, critical thinking, and fairness were hallmarks of her character.
Numbers and accounting were another of her many talents. After her children had grown, she found fulfillment in jobs that allowed her to apply her skills in office management and accounting. She and her husband complemented each other perfectly in their real estate ventures, with her taking care of the paperwork while he managed the hands-on tasks.
Mary Lynn and Michael shared a profound love for the outdoors. Their honeymoon was spent camping, and this passion continued as their children joined them on countless camping trips to Wisconsin and Minnesota. Every year, the family eagerly anticipated their time at Crooked Lake, where they enjoyed boating, fishing, and hiking. These trips created some of the family's fondest memories and instilled in them a deep appreciation for nature.
Gardening was another of Mary Lynn’s great loves. She eagerly awaited the winter thaw each year, ready to spend the warmer months tending to her beloved plants. Regular walks in the local woods with her husband were a cherished ritual, reflecting their shared love of nature.
Despite suffering from chronic anemia in her later years, Mary Lynn remained mentally sharp and active. She continued to garden, solve word puzzles, manage accounts, and play music. Her resilience was inspiring, and she faced her declining health and eventual death with remarkable grace.
Mary Lynn Irene Adamczyk is survived by her husband of 66 years, her brother James, seven of her children, and nine grandchildren. Her absence leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew her, but her memory and the love she bestowed upon us endure. She was deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
