MaryBrent and the Debes family , in Rockford, were an important part of my life as a high school and college student. I would not be the person I am today without them. They taught me to believe in myself and for that I am eternally grateful. Over time, I will pay my respects to your sisters, husband and sons. God bless you. Duane Kissick

I am saddened to hear of Brent's death. She was incredibly talented and compassionate woman. I had the opportunity to be in the Cedar Rapids West Rotary Club with her for several years and always looked forward to our chats. She had a heart of gold, always attentive to the needs of others, and inspired others with her music and encouragement. May God continue to bless her and provide support to Jim and the family. She will be missed.

When Mr. Rez informed me that my daughter, Allison, had reached the point that he felt it would be more beneficial to hand her off to another teacher, initially my heart sank. I had no idea what an incredible blessing that would turn out to be. But from the very first lesson with Brent, we were uplifted and encouraged and placed on a path that would impact not just Allison's life, but that of our entire family and beyond.
Brent was so much more than a gifted teacher. She cared about her students and helped them rise above whatever pressures or circumstances might be weighing them down. She did more than help them learn music, she helped them grow as people. She had an amazing ability to motivate my kids to work/practice diligently while also truly accepting and encouraging them through difficulties. She knew that the skills she helped them develop would serve them well in all walks of life and celebrated their successes in other areas, as well.
I am getting teary thinking about it. I have never met anyone quite like Brent and miss her already. She not only supported and encouraged my children/her students, but she did so for me, as well. Crazy how much a person can make a difference in another person's life with mere minutes in passing between lessons.
While I shed tears at the news of her passing, I am deeply grateful for her influence on my life and the lives of Allison, Nathan and Katie Bellows, my children who were able to benefit from her teaching. Huge heart hugs to her family.
Please know that her legacy lives on through her students and the lives they touch.

My sympathies to the Debth family. Learning of the passing of Brent brings such heartache. Brent was an incredible woman and our whole family mourns. She was a wonderful teacher for my daughter throughout her elementary, middle and high school years. She instilled so much confidence and a deep love of violin in my daughter and for that we are forever grateful.
My favorite thing to do during my daughter’s lessons was to read the many words of encouragement and wisdom that were hung around the walls of Brent’s studio. We also enjoyed petting the sweet doggies - Panda and Daisy!

When I was a child, Brent let me play violin with the small group from the Cedar Rapids Symphony that would come play at our elementary school every year. It made me feel SO special.
