Bunny's obituary
Marybeth “Bunny” Bentsen (1941–2023)
Loving wife and mother, Marybeth “Bunny” Bentsen, 82, of Bogart, GA, died from natural causes on October 19th, 2023. She was born in Cavalier, ND in 1941 to Phillip and Blanche Zimmerman. She attended primary and secondary school in Riverdale, ND before studying at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. There she met the love of her life, Ronald Bentsen, in the school cafeteria line. They married in 1960 and began an exciting life together.
Ron and Bunny soon started a family, with daughter Laura being born in 1961, son James (Jim) in 1962, son David in 1964 and son Brian in 1970. Over their 55 years of marriage, they traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Together they visited over 20 countries. They also lived in Japan for five years, where son David was born, and in Germany for five years, where son Brian was born. In late 1973 they moved to Conyers, GA, where they remained until Ron’s passing in 2016.
Though she loved travel, reading and taking walks with friends, Bunny’s favorite role was that of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured her time with great-granddaughters Harper and Hazel Battaglia. She also acted as a surrogate parent for many of her children’s friends when they spent time at her and Ron’s house in Conyers, which they did frequently.
Bunny will always be remembered for her intelligence, charm and welcoming nature. We could not have asked for a better mother and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. She was preceded in death by husband Ron, and is survived by daughter Laura (John Vlha), sons Jim, David (Mary Gathright) and Brian (Lisa Bentsen), granddaughters Heather (Jordan Youngquist) and Kathleen (Matthew Battaglia), and great-granddaughters Harper and Hazel Battaglia.
The family will hold a private burial service.
