Terri's obituary
Terri completed her education in Denver, attending Wyatt Elementary, Cole Junior High and Manual High School before attending the University of Denver. Her career was marked by a spirited tenure as a flight attendant with Frontier Airlines, beginning on May 29, 1976. After retiring in 1986, she moved to Southern California where she transitioned into retail, working for Bullocks, later known as Macy’s, until her second retirement. During this time, she met and married the love of her life, Stanley Colbert. After many years together, they married on May 23, 1998, and had a beautiful life together. Alongside her husband, Terri also pursued a career in real estate. Stan cared for Terri at their home during her illness until her death.
Her commitment to community service was evident through her active volunteer work with Obama campaign. Known for her outgoing and energetic personality, Terri was beautiful both inside and out. She had a profound impact on those around her, characterized by her genuine care and compassion. Family was very important to Terri. She loved to visit her parents, when they were living, and help them in any way she could. She was very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as extended family. She especially shared a unique and special bond with her first grandchild, Jarrett. She was there at his birth, and they remained very close. Terri gave Jarrett the nickname Jarre Bear, and she was G-ma, GG or just “G” to all the grands. She took great pride in making sure her men, Stan and Jarrett, were always well dressed and had the best fragrances! Stan and Terri took in their nephews, Sylvester and Emmett for a while each. They loved and cared for them as if they were their own.
Terri loved to travel, often accompanied by her mother, husband, daughter or friends. She shared a special bond with her daughter Deirdre through their shared passions for horseback riding when Deirdre was a young child, and baking, particularly their famous rum cakes eagerly awaited by family and friends each year around Christmas time. Jarrett and Vanessa would anxiously await “G-ma’s box” at Christmas. Terri would send them an ornament that was specially chosen for them according to their personalities and likes each year. The ornaments she gave us all will be a cherished reminder of her love forever.
Teresa leaves behind a loving family: her husband, Stanley Colbert; daughter, Deirdre Hurd; grandchildren, Jarrett Hurd (Tykia), Vanessa Bandy and Lili Hurd; great-grandchildren, Iris, Trevon, Aniyah, Isabella and Jarrett II. She is also survived by her bothers, Manuel Duran (Vivian), Earbie, Herman (Edelgard), George and Albert Hurd; sisters, Margie Anderson and Hellen Rigmaiden; sisters-in-law, Sylvia and Cynthia Colbert and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.T. Harrison and Tillie Hurd; brothers, Harrison, James and “L.C.” Hurd; mother-in-law, LaRuth Fields Colbert, brother-in-law, Cyrus Friday; and foster brothers, Anthony Edgenton and Robert Butler.
