Susie's obituary
Susie F. John passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Appleton. She was born on May 31, 1938, in Neenah, the daughter of Gordon and Frances (Cheeseman) Albert. Susie graduated from Neenah High School with the class of 1956 and attended Oshkosh College from 1956 to 1958. She was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” John on June 25, 1960, at the Methodist Church in Neenah. Susie worked for Sunray Mid-Continent Oil Company in Tulsa, OK, from October of 1960 to March 1962. She was then employed part time as a church secretary from September of 1973 until May of 2005, working for Peace United Methodist Church in Kaukauna, Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Appleton, and Zion United Methodist Church in Forest Junction. She worked for a total of 10 different pastors during those years.
Susie was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Kaukauna and served on various committees. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, sang in the choir, and directed the handbell choir for 12 years. She was a member of the local United Methodist Women unit, held various offices over the years for the Wisconsin Conference UMW, was on the District Nominating Committee, and served as District President for 4 years.
Susie enjoyed counted cross-stitching, knitting, completing puzzles, and reading. She loved to go to rummage sales and make pound cake for every family gathering. Susie had a fondness for horses and will be remembered most by her grandchildren as Grandma Cookies.
Susie is survived by 4 children: James (Carol) John, Deb (Michael) Schultz, Scott (Shellie) John, and Diane (John Lambert) Beach; 7 grandchildren: Alex (Bridget), Tony, April (fiancé Tony Clark), Dylon (Jason) and Abbi Beach; Justin Hartjes, Jaiden and Kaleb John; a sister: Virginia Cramer; a brother-in-law: Phil Wilms; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years; her parents; sisters: Clara (William) Bastian and Cynthia Wilms; and 2 brothers-in-law: Hal Cramer and Kenneth (Janis) John.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Peace United Methodist Church, 2300 E. Wisconsin Ave., Kaukauna. Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to Peace United Methodist Church, Kaukauna, or United Women in Faith.
