Mary's obituary
Mary Bell Terwillegar, born Mary Catherine Bell in Houston, Texas, on May 22, 1952, passed away on October 22, 2025, in College Station, Texas, from complications related to Bird Fancier’s Lung.
Mary graduated from Portland University in Portland, Oregon, earning a Bachelor of Science in Art. She pursued her passion for oil painting and ceramics for many years, continuing as long as her health allowed, until her oxygen levels could no longer sustain the effort her art required.
Mary was social, kind, and beloved by everyone who met her—a truly gregarious spirit whose warmth filled every room. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Terwillegar, of Millican, Texas; her brother, John Bell, of Lake Jackson, Texas; and her son, Paul Huber, of Basel, Switzerland.
Diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes at the age of four, Mary faced a lifetime of medical challenges with unwavering strength. By her early thirties, diabetic retinopathy had begun to impair her vision, yet she never allowed it to diminish her joy for life. She remained strong, cheerful, and stoic, inspiring all who knew her.
Though grief lies heavy in our hearts, her light and spirit will forever live on in the many lives she touched.
