I'm so, so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, Mary. She has always been such a bright star in Glen Arbor and will be greatly missed. She has certainly left a legacy of strength and compassion through her community involvement and dedication to her wonderful children and grandchildren.

I had the privilege of knowing Mary for many years and I have many fond memories of her. She invited me to her home for dinner often when I was new to GA and living alone. She made me feel like part of her family. She was such an inspirational figure in our community. She will be missed dearly but her love and warmth lives on in her kids and grandkids.

My condolences to the Sutherland family. I was fortunate to be able to work with Mary on Saturdays when she worked at Cherry Republic. The store was always busy, but the customers didn’t mind the wait as she would keep them calm with a story. Wonderful lady and fun to work with. Never a dull moment.

Most sincere condolences to all Sutherlands. Mary was a rock, an inspiration, a fireball of energy and crusading spirit for all of us, and truly an exemplar and icon of our community. She showed us all what it means to live a life of purpose and love.
‘Tis a Fearful Thing
‘Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be – to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this, And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
For your life has lived in me, your laugh once lifted me, your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy. ‘Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.”
