Mary Catherine South: A Life Full of Laughter and Love
Bean Station, TN - December 12, 2023 - Mary Catherine South, (70) wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Though she was surrounded with love, the world feels a little emptier without her vibrant spirit.
Mary, born to Helen and John Parks, brought joy to the world with her infectious laughter and sharp wit. Her humor was like a well-placed chili pepper – spicy and unexpected, leaving you wanting more. She kept everyone on their toes, never afraid to laugh at herself or challenge the status quo. She was a lover of animals and always had room for “just one more”.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love. Predeceased by her parents, she is survived by her first husband, Earl South, and her companion and life partner, Tom Travis. Together they built a life full of laughter, pets, and countless Christmases filled with her infamous "crazy care packages."
Her children, Adam South of Averill Park, NY, and Erin Meyer and husband Stephen Meyer, will forever cherish the memories of her. Mary's five grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and the joy she found in spoiling them with gift boxes from afar was unmatched.
Mary was more than just a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend who always knew how to make thoses she cared about smile. She was a confidante who could make you laugh until your sides ached. She was a force of nature, a whirlwind of love and laughter, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
While her absence leaves a void, we remember Mary not with sorrow, but with the warmth of her smile and the echo of her laughter. Let us celebrate her life by sharing her stories, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts, and continuing to spread the love and joy that she so generously shared with the world.
Mary’s family is holding a private service. Please feel free to reach out with any funny stories you would like to share.
Rest in peace, Mary. Your laughter and love will forever be in our hearts.
