Mary Louise Schoenfeld, age 80, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Forest Grove, OR and Aliso Viejo, CA, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023. Born in Elkhart, IN, Mary moved to California as a child with her mom and older sister. She lost both parents at a young age, and was placed in a foster home, where she developed her strength of character and independent nature, as well as nurtured a desire to see the world. Mary joined the U.S. Army (then the US Women’s Army Corp.) after graduating high school, and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany during the Vietnam War. She was able to travel throughout Europe while serving her country. Mary worked many years as an executive assistant for McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing in Long Beach, CA, then as an administrative assistant for the Laguna Beach School District office in Laguna Beach, CA until her retirement. Throughout her life, Mary worked hard, played harder and fiercely valued her friends and family. She was a private person, but also enjoyed sharing her dry wit and a good laugh whenever possible.

Mary is survived by her children, Lee Schoenfeld and wife Wendy of Texas, Stephanie Mc Junkin and husband Joe of Indiana, and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Gertrude Hubbard and John L. Molnar, and two sisters.

Following cremation, burial of ashes will take place on September 18th, 2023 at 11:30am PST,  Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA.
