Mary's obituary

Mary Frances Prosniewski was born April 2nd, 1953 to parents Frank and Frances Prosniewski. On April 19th she passed away at the age of 71, after a long fight with breast cancer.

Mary grew up in Wyandotte and Southgate, Michigan alongside her 7 brothers and sisters, John, Paul, James, Teresa, Geralyn, Phyllis and Joseph.

Mary attended The University of Michigan, receiving her bachelors degree in Psychology. She looked back at her years in Ann Arbor as some of the best times in her life. It was there that she met her friends turned to family, Marsha, Ann, and Lisa, and made meaningful and cherished connections to local Native American communities. She was known as "Pros" by her fellow classmates and friends.

Mary had a deep love for reading. She lived many different lives through the books she read. She loved writing and documenting her life. Mary loved music, especially rock and roll, and attending concerts. She loved camping and felt the most peace being out in nature. One of her favorite places was Port Burwell, surrounded by her family.

Mary was known for her wit and humor. She shared many laughs with her loved ones. She loved discussing history and science and would often find herself in the midst of heated debates with family and friends. Mary was a confidant to many. She had a presence to her that made people feel comfortable to be vulnerable and the ability to make others feel validated and heard.

Mary, known as Mimi, never had biological children of her own, but was a mother figure in many peoples lives. She had a special relationship with her brother and sisters’ children and their children as well. Mary had two godchildren: her nieces, Jennifer and Elyse.

Mary is survived by her loving siblings, John (Janet), Paul (Pam), Geralyn, Teresa (Ian), Phyllis (Victor), and Joseph. As well as her nieces and nephews: Jason (Elizabeth), Julie, Jarod, Corinne, Elyse, Grace, Jennifer (Robert), Marissa (Jeremy), Daniel, Emily, Meghan (Ryan), Mary (Chuck), Caitlin, James, Anna (Marty) and Christine. Great nieces and nephews Brionna and Tre’Shon, Gwyneth, Brax, Bubs (Brandon), Dresden, AJ, Quinn, Paige, Elena, Dante, Christopher, Aiden, Ryder, Jackson, Madison, Margot, and Penelope.

Mary lived with her sister Geralyn for many years, helping to raise her children James and Anna. Mary deeply valued her relationship with her family, especially the children in the family, who all viewed her as a second mother/grandmother. Her battle with cancer was a tumultuous journey. She often said that the silver lining was the extra time she got to spend with her family who helped care for her. Notedly, Geralyn, Joseph, Phyllis, Teresa, Misha, and Anna who were all caregivers for her throughout her cancer treatments and during her transition out of this life. They provided her with love, comfort, and care. Margot and Penelope kept her spirits high during her times of weakness.

Mimi was an animal lover and will be greatly missed by her and Geralyn's pets; their dog Ziggy and cat Conner McGee.

We hope that she now rests peacefully with her loved ones who passed before her: her parents Frank and Frances Prosniewski, brother, James and sister in law, Maureen. As well as, all the family pets that went before her.

The family will hold a celebration of life this summer, details will follow.
