Some heartfelt and lasting memories brought me here. Mary never knew the impact she had on my life when I was stationed at Naval Air Station Alameda in 1967-68 during the Vietnam War and the flower child era.  Her beautiful voice in The Sunshine Company would ring through my transistor radio and brought me peace and tranquility. I've never forgotten that. I listed her as my friend because that's how she made me feel. I know she is singing praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus.  RIP !!

Mary, you were always so kind and so loving to my family and I. You were always so cool and just a little bit crazy! Happy birthday in heaven 💛  I am glad that we will see you again.

Love, Charlie and AnnMarie Woods

  • I am so sad to learn of Mary’s death.  I actually woke up this morning thinking about her and wondering what became of her, Tom, Christopher and Timothy. I met Mary when I was the secretary for the SSRC at Cal State Dominguez Hills. We became very close and I was witness to the remarkable love affair that blossomed when she met Tom. Mary and I had many deep talks about life, love and spirituality and we laughed a lot! We both lived in San Pedro and I was her ride to Dominguez Hills for a time.  My husband and I got together with Tom and Mary and enjoyed seeing the boys when they were little guys. I also witnessed Mary’s rededication to the Lord and that sparked a whole new dimension to our friendship as sisters in Christ. Unfortunately we lost touch after a few years. I have thought about her from time to time, which led me to this page when I looked her up. I know one day I will see her again. My deepest condolences to the family.

I didn’t know that Mary has passed on. I will  never forget her beautiful voice in “Back On The Street Again”  that I heard  on my transistor radio for the first time when I arrived for active duty.  That song  is  still embedded in my mind 54 years later. Sunshine Company was a great group and vastly underrated. Thanks to all of you and especially Mary.

Hey Mary,

Merel here. Ya know we definitely made some beautiful noise together. Always loud and proud. Now...you're takin' a little rest. I'm glad. You've certainly earned it.

Well...know that I've always loved you...from when we were just kids in Pedro...and have always been so incredibly proud of you. Rest peacefully, then FLY like the angel that you are.

Your friend. Your drummer. Your Merel.
