Mary's obituary
Born in Eden, NC on December 28, 1951, Mary Beth (as many called her) was the daughter of Jack and Elizabeth Baker. She attended high school at Morehead High School in Eden where she was Senior Class President, an Outstanding Senior, a Homecoming Court member, Homeroom President and was involved in many academic societies and clubs such as National Honors, Literary/Spanish Club, Dance Team, Chorus/Glee Club, and Astronomy Club. After graduating in 1970, she attended Greensboro College in NC where she pursued a major in Elementary Education. Mary Beth made the Dean's List each year, was part of both Alpha Kappa Omega and Gamma Iota Sigma during her junior year and was named Who's Who during her senior year. She was a class officer and secretary/treasurer of the Greensboro College chapter of National Association of Educators as well as being highly involved in many organizations including Greensboro College Players, GC Chorale, Biology Club, Volunteer Action Committee, Student-Faculty Court, Social Life Committee and campus honorary societies. Outside of college she volunteered in a day care, tutored in community projects and was an assistant youth director at Greensboro Methodist Church. After receiving her degree in Elementary Education in 1974, she pursued graduated studies to receive her full accreditation as a Christian minister.
Mary Beth's first job was as the youth director of Arlington Congregational Church before she began her teaching career in 1975-1976 in Madison County schools (NC). While teaching 1st grade at Beaches Chapel Christian School (FL), she met her love, Charlie. They were married on November 26, 1976 in Neptune Beach, FL. Even after having three children of her own, she continued to teach in several schools and grades including New Covenant Christian School (Little Rock, AR), Cloverdale Christian Academy-3rd Grade (Little Rock, AR), Union County Elementary School-3rd Grade (Blairsville, GA), Lighthouse Christian School-K-1, 6th-12th/Spanish (Blairsville, GA), Midland High School-Spanish (Midland, TX), Daves Creek Elementary-3rd Grade (Cumming, GA), and Robinson Elementary-3rd Grade (Dawsonville, GA). Her teaching career came to an end in 2010 when she retired after almost 35 years of doing what she loved.
Mary Beth continued her love for volunteer work and community service throughout her teaching career and in her retirement. She assisted and lead many children’s environments at several churches, taught Vacation Bible School during the summers and helped direct/organize the church library for First Baptist in Blairsville, GA. She was a true servant and loved to help others. Above all her achievements and accomplishments, she loved Jesus and she lived her life to serve Him. She was a true intercessor and her faith was evident in all that she did. Mary Beth most recently attended The Church @ War Hill (Dawsonville) with her husband.
Mary Beth is survived by her husband, Charlie William Mudge, Jr. of Cumming, GA; daughter Hannah (Anthony) Senevey of Suwanee, GA, daughter Laura Herrera of Raleigh, NC, son Charles Mudge III of Grayson, GA; two granddaughters Caitlyn and Megan, one grandson Sam; and brother John (Jodi) Baker of Durham, NC. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack Baker and her mother, Elizabeth Baker.
There will be no visitation which was her and her family's wish. A memorial and celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, April 13 at The Church @ War Hill in Dawsonville, GA. All friends and family are invited to attend.
“But godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6
