Mary's obituary

Mary Blanche Mansfield Montgomery, 89, of Sarasota, Florida, born January 25, 1934, in Decatur, Illinois, went home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on May 28, 2023, at her home in Sarasota, Florida.

Mary was one of eleven children born to Glen Reber and Alpha Josephine (McDuffy) Mansfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Bobby Hittle, Norma Horton, Nancy Lamb, and Kathy Kerrn, and five brothers, Reber Mansfield, Billy Mansfield, Tom Mansfield, Donald (Johnny) Mansfield, and Glen (Junior) Mansfield. Her youngest brother Mike Mansfield currently lives in North Carolina.

Mary married Carroll B. Montgomery Jr. (Pete), of Ponca City, Oklahoma, on July 29, 1950. They were loving parents to one son, Carroll B. Montgomery III (Billy), and five daughters, Jackie Lobdell, Joanne (Rich) Ohl, Sandy (John) Clements, Debbie (Donny) Reed, and Mary Solomon.

Mary also loved and adored dearly her nine grandchildren, Brian Jr., Montgomery, and Angela (Paris) Lobdell, Billy and Amanda Ward, April (Burdin) and Jason Reed, John Montgomery and JR (Randy Jr.) Solomon, along with her thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Family was of up most importance to her. Her impact will be forever felt by her family and friends and her passing leaves a gap in the hearts of her loved ones.

Mary was the kindest and most thoughtful person one could meet. Though she suffered with dementia in her later years, she only grew sweeter and sweeter. Every Hospice nurse and nurse’s aide who helped with her care in the last months of her life agreed that she was the sweetest!

For 27 years her daughter witnessed to her and shared the Gospel. In 1995, she and her husband moved to Florida. Jackie invited her to a ladies’ Christmas brunch, and during that brunch she accepted Christ as her personal Savior! 27 years well spent!

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her son, her daughter Joanne, and grandson John Montgomery. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, Illinois.

1 Thessalonians 4:18, Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

2 Corinthians 5:8, We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
