Mary Joyce Gullett Metcalf
April 3, 1936 - November 8, 2021

Joyce was born in Lucasville, Ohio on April, 3, 1936. She was the daughter of Everett and Mary Catherine Gullett. She lived with her siblings Nita, Donald, Betty, Everett Jr, and Elmer in Columbus, Ohio. She joined the US Women’s Army Corps and completed Basic Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama on June 2, 1955. She was Honorably Discharged on March 29, 1957 as Private, 1st class WAC.

Joyce moved to California in 1957, where she lived for the rest of her life. A lifelong world traveller, Joyce visited every corner of the globe on her many adventures. She had several other pursuits including achieving her pilot’s license, photography, and studying her family’s genealogy.

An accomplished woman, Joyce owned and operated the hair salon, The Chateau Blue, alongside her sister Nita, in Fremont, CA for 19 years. Joyce was also a realtor and owned several rental properties around Fremont. Upon retirement, Joyce became a long time volunteer docent at the Ardenwood Historic Farm, where she gave tours to visitors, as well as helped restore some of the farm’s antique furniture.

Later in life, Joyce moved to Rio Vista, CA, where she married her husband Jim Metcalf. They continued to travel the world together and remained active in their community.
Joyce’s true passion in life was her family. She devoted her life to loving and supporting her siblings, step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whose lives she forever touched. She is survived by her husband Jim, sister Nita, brother Donald, and dozens and dozens of extended family, who love and miss her very much.
