Mary J. Luedtke, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Wausau, WI on August 3, 1930, to the late Theodore and Minnie Schwartz. Mary graduated from Wausau High School. On September 11, 1948, Mary married her sweetheart, Thomas Luedtke, with whom she spent her entire blessed married life.

Mary and Thomas started married life (including kids) in Wisconsin, before moving to Saint Joseph MO in 1958.  Mary became the proud mother of 5 children, Teresa, Tim, Barbara, David and Mark  with Thomas . After they moved to Saint Joseph, Mary worked at Allied Glass Co as the Office manager for several years before retiring. After her husband’s passing in 1993, she dedicated time to family, traveling, and traveling with family. Family time was an extraordinary joy to her, and she made those special memories whenever she could.

Her travels started with mission trips to Guatemala. They then on to fun and memorable trips like London (with/Patti), China (with/ David) and Baja Mexico (with/ Megan). She was never idle and kept herself busy with crafts, socks for Christmas, quilts, and pads for the animal shelter to name just a few.

Anyone and everyone who knew Mary for however long or however little knew her genuine, selfless, and loving spirit. She was the ultimate caretaker and was deeply devoted to her entire family. You could find her in the kitchen cooking delicious food (homemade bread), pulling the pesky weeds outside in the beautiful garden when she knew she should not.

Her granddaughter described her best that she was “a gift from god and force of nature.” She was a great connector within the family and the ultimate matriarch. Her legacy is one of strength, generosity, and love. Without a doubt, the impact of her life will be felt for generations to come.
