Mary's obituary
Mary Lee Lawrence, 74, of Alpena, MI passed away on November 25, 2022 at MyMichigan Health Ann Arbor surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on June 18th, 1948 to Harry and Shirley Wagner in Alpena, MI. After graduating from Catholic Central High School in 1966 she went on to study nursing at Northwestern Michigan College. After completing her program she worked as an LPN, and also opened and ran a community house. There she loved and cared for anybody needing support and a place to stay.
Mary Lee met the love of her life, David Lawrence, and they wed at St. Bernard Catholic Church on June 5th, 1970 and later had 4 children, John, Angela, Christopher, and Rebecca. Mary and Dave performed music at St. Bernard for many years and hosted prayer meetings in their home. Mary shifted her career when she became a mother and she and Dave opened a Christian Bookstore and then Brass Lantern Gifts. They later started Eagle Supply Co. where they continued to work with their sons until her passing. Mary was a ray of sunshine, always listening and helping, and loving everyone around her. She loved God, her family, camping, reading, holiday traditions, snuggling her grandbabies, and family dinners at Long Lake. Her family and many friends will miss her greatly.
Mary Lee was proceeded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, David, her children John, Angela, Christopher (Lorie), and Rebecca (Jim) Hofer, her grandchildren Devin, Chloe, Mason, Esmay, Kaylee, and Marlee, and her siblings William, Harry, David, Jeanne, and John Wagner, and many nieces and nephews.
With everyone’s safety and health in mind, we as a family have decided to postpone her memorial. We will gather for an outdoor celebration of life ceremony in the summer of 2023. Details to follow.
