Mary Elizabeth Kirwan (Sims), age 64, of Salinas, CA, passed away on March 22, 2024. Mary was a devoted partner of over 20 years to Richard Ralph Best. She is survived by her loving daughter Christine McGee (Jeff), treasured grandchildren Travis McGee (2004) and Ashley McGee (2008), loving son Matthew Kirwan, dear sisters Bonnie Mitchell (Jim) and Dianne Bergstrom (Bob), and beloved brothers Michael Sims (Pricilla) and Jeff Sims, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

 Mary Beth was preceded in death by her adored mother Doris Rasmussen and devoted brother David Sims.

Mary Beth was a graduate of Notre Dame High School Class of 1977 and a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Salinas, CA. She was a remarkable individual who loved her family, life, and was a force to be reckoned with. Mary Beth valiantly beat a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, teaching us the most precious lesson that love is the force that conquers all. She was perhaps most content  when she could enjoy a good book, with a sleeping cat on her lap. 

Mary’s  journey here may be complete, but her story lives on, a legacy of light that will continue to guide and inspire us. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously bestowed upon us.

A memorial service will be held in Mary's honor at the First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA on April 13, 2024, at 3:00pm. Contributions in memory of Mary Beth can be made to First United Methodist Church of Salinas, Animal Friends Rescue Project, Relay For Life, or Central Coast VNA.
