Mary Kay's obituary

Mary Kay Oney (Burke), known affectionately to all as Boo Boo, left the world a little less sweet and a lot less funny on August 5, 2024. Born on February 15, 1956, in Fremont, Ohio, Boo Boo was a force of nature whose life was a recipe for joy, with a dash of sass, and heaps of love.

After years of working, she found her way to the Art Institute of Tampa, where she honed her craft of baking with the fervor of one who finds their true calling. Alongside her sister and best friend, Kathy she owned & operated Sweet Ida Mae's Bakery. Their bond not just of blood, but of shared dreams where they ‘took sweets to the streets’ in their bespoke hot pink ambulance and in each confection, a piece of Boo Boo's heart was shared. She was a familiar and welcoming face at local farmer's markets, where she took great pleasure in sharing her baked goods and brightening everyone’s' days.

Words like loving, spirited, and generous seem almost inadequate to describe Boo Boo, but they're a good start. Her fearless approach to life was something to behold, and nothing could stand in the way of her pursuit of happiness.

But above all, Boo Boo treasured the time spent with her family. Because for her, love and laughter were the main ingredients in the banquet of life.

Her heart was vast, encompassing not only her biological relatives but also numerous individuals who were welcomed and embraced with her generous spirit that never ceased to give. She is survived by her son, Hayden Oney, her loving partner, Eugene Mapp, and her dearest siblings, Sue Ann Dorsey, Kathy Gonya, Lonnie Burke, and Rick & Marcie Burke, along with many nieces, nephews, and the countless adopted children and cherished members of her extended family that were all part of her entourage of joy.

In true Boo Boo fashion, let's not say goodbye. Instead, let's imagine she's just stepped out to get more sprinkles. Her spirit will remain a sweet memory in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her. Her final wish would surely be for us to enjoy an extra slice of life's sweetness, with a twinkle in our eyes and a smudge of chocolate on our cheeks.

If you're joining us to celebrate, don’t forget to wear pink! Let’s make it a bright and cheerful tribute in Boo Boo’s signature color :)
