Mary Jo's obituary
OBITUARY, MARY JO HARRIS
AZLE, TEXAS: Mary “Jo” (Elliott) Harris departed this life on March 03, 2024, to receive her glorified body with Christ. Even though she will be greatly missed, she has asked that you not grieve because she has gone to be with her Lord and Savior, but that you celebrate her life as if she were still here.
A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church of Castle Hills, 401 Beverly Rd, in Azle,Texas on March 17,2024 at 2:00 p.m. Mary Jo, like her “Buddy”, has donated her body to UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, so they can experiment and maybe find a cure for some unknown disease.
Mary Jo was born October 15, 1930, in the small South Texas town of Martindale, but spent most of her young life on a farm in the Williamson County area before moving to Liberty Hill Texas, where she lived until moving to Ft.Worth,Texas in 1948 to wed Doyle Duane Elliott, the father of her three sons. In 1952 they bought their one and only home in Azle,Texas where they became active members of Castle Hills Baptist, now known as First Baptist Church of Castle Hills. Apart from a three-year period away from the Church, Mary Jo has been an active and faithful member of her Church since 1952. She’s held positions in this Church to include Nursery Superintendent, Primary & Junior teachers, Girls Auxiliary Leader, Woman’s Missionary Union President and Director, Sunday School Secretary, Church Clerk and Church Treasure. Her three most exciting positions were witnessing the ordination of Duane Elliott as Deacon in the Church; Chairing the committee for burning the note on the addition of the fellowship hall and upstairs classrooms and chairing the committee to celebrate to the 50th Anniversary of the Church. She almost ascended to heaven before her time when she witnessed her three sons surrendering their lives to Christ and observing their baptisms, and again in 2009 when she witnessed the salvation and baptisms of the last of her grandchildren, making her have a full house ready to be with the Lord. Mary Jo was a Charter and active member of Woodmen of the World Lodge # 4522 in Azle,Texas until its transfer to Granbury Lodge in 2013, holding the Recording Secre-tary’s position since 1976. The father of her three sons passed away in 1986 and Mary Jo mar-ried Everette S. “Buddy” Harris in 1989, a Police Lieutenant that she used to tell “where to go” when she was Police Dispatcher for the City of Blue Mound Police Department. Mary Jo was also a Police Dispatcher for the City of Azle from 1974 to 1982, where she earned her certifica-tion as an Advanced Reserve Police Officer, taking that position with her to Blue Mound where she did some street patrolling while there. Mary Jo tired of Law Enforcement in 1987 and went to work with Tri-County Electric Co-op in Azle, Texas where she retired in 1997.
