Mary's obituary

Mary Lou Holte (“Mary Lou” or “Lou”) passed away peacefully at home in Bogart, Georgia on January 18, 2023. She was 83 years old. The family is saddened and shocked by this unexpected death, but is comforted to know that it was a peaceful passing in her sleep.

Mary Lou is survived and missed by her children, Ralph Holte (Debbie) of Lemont, GA, Daniel Holte (Seyoung) of Bogart, GA, Guy Holte of Chicago, IL, and Troy Holte of Minooka, IL (Jackie); her brother Richard Holte of Morton Grove, IL; and her grandchildren, Yoonju, Dylan, Dalas, Shelby, Faith, Evan, and Jacob. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Holte, father John Howard, and mother Anne Howard.

She was born in 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to parents John and Anne Howard. She graduated from Chicago Teachers College and worked as a teacher in Chicago, Illinois. After having four sons from her marriage to Norman Holte (1964-2013), Mary Lou worked as a consumer credit card service personnel at Sears until she retired and moved to Statesboro, Georgia with her husband. A year after her husband Norman’s passing, she moved to Bogart, Georgia in 2014 to live with her son Daniel and his family.

Mary loved dolls, Christmas ornaments, Kincaid paintings, and word puzzles. She enjoyed her TV shows, especially old movies on TCM. She loved seeing the birds feed on the birdfeeder out the window, talking to the visitors, and eating her Friday Pizzas. She kept her sharp mind until the last day, and remembered the names of the movie actors/actresses, football players, and most of the prominent social figures. We are grateful for her last days at home God granted. She loved watching UGA claim the national championship back to back. She was giddy, talkative, with no sign of pain or discomfort. She looked very peaceful in her sleep on her last day.

A special thanks goes to Samantha Campos, who partnered with us in assisting mom with grace and love. Her kindness and care was an integral part of mom’s well being in her last years.
