Mary's obituary

Mary Hennessay Bennett passed away in her home in Carlsbad, CA on May 27, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer. She was 67 years old.

Mary was born on October 7, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA to Henry and Margaret Hennessay. After graduating from South Pasadena High School, Mary attended San Luis Obispo Cal Poly where she studied Agriculture and Journalism. She enjoyed life and worked in Hawaii for a time before returning to California when her father became ill.

In 1979 and again in 1986 Mary, along with her (then) husband Danny Bennett became parents to Annie and Katherine. Mary and Danny remained friends for many years raising their beautiful daughters as single parents.

In the early 90's she met and fell for Ray Baum…the love of her life. For 32 years they stood by each other's side through all the ups and downs of life. Together they enjoyed traveling the world. Their adventures took them back to Mary’s beloved Hawaii, Tonga, Australia, Bermuda, Tahiti and other locations.

For many years Mary worked as a library tech at Mira Costa College and Carlsbad City Library. Mary was kind hearted and always willing to help anyone. She left a lasting impression on all those who knew her. A talk on the phone with her sweet soft voice and laughter was sure to cheer you up.

Mary’s biggest joys in life were her six grandchildren. Mimi was her chosen “grandma” name and fit her perfectly. She loved to have everyone under one roof or show up at school pickup to say hello. Mary’s favorite tradition was her holiday dinner with all the grandchildren, the toy train around the tree and the Christmas village all lit up.

Mary loved the beach, the Carlsbad flower fields, and old movies. We will miss our Mimi greatly.

Mary is survived by her beloved partner Ray, daughters Annie (Joey) and Katherine, grandchildren Bennett (20), Stella (17), Storm (16), Kolbie (13), Phoebe (13), Clementine (10), siblings Patricia and John, and extended family and friends whom she loved dearly.

A Memorial and Celebration of life will be held at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery located at 4050 Mission Ave. Oceanside, CA.
