Mary's obituary
Mary Ellen Gober Trehern died on March 28th, 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born in Landsthul, Germany on June 2nd 1978. Her parents, Liz & Don Gober and sister Jane lived on Kreuzberg Military Kaserne in Zweibrucken, Germany. There were multiple moves in her young life, Aberdeen, Maryland, Northern Virginia and San Antonio, Texas. Mary graduated from Lee High School (now John Lewis High School) in 1997. She really majored in Theatre there and lettered in Forensics. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2001, majoring in Graphic Arts.
After university, Mary worked professionally in the DC area before adventuring west, first to Lexington, Kentucky, and then to Phoenix, Arizona around 2005. She worked as a graphic designer for the East Valley Tribune, before joining the Salt River Project. In her early young adult years, she truly caught the fantasy fiction bug, making worldwide friendships (including the one that led her to Arizona) through this connection. Mary loved any opportunity to use her creative heart, whether it was self-publishing a novel, or through her Renaissance Fair costumes. She had many 'avatars' that maybe you have met: from Olive Troublemaking to the Blackberry Fairy.
In 2015 Mary married Brent Trehern in a legendarily geeky ceremony that included sci-fi costumes and a pinata; and was a charitable book drive. She leaves behind her beloved husband and their six cats and two birds. Mary was an organ donor and her sudden death may be the gift of life to five other families. She was one of the most creative, talkative, generous, and smart people to have walked this earth and we are better for having had her in our lives.
We have connected this obituary to the Arizona Animal Welfare League; however, we also feel that a gift in her memory to the Migrane Research Foundation, or Arizona Give Life would be appropriate if you choose.
