Mary's obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mary Hoover on August 1, 2023. Born to Lea Luther and Hervian Luther on March 1, 1927, Mary was a beloved figure, cherished and respected by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Mary leaves behind her son, Rick Hoover; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hoover; her granddaughters, Piper Hoover, Stormy Zimmerman, and Krystalin Power; her grandson, Ricky Stevens; and her sister, Susie Roberts. Mary was predeceased by her loving spouse, Gerald Hoover, whom she married in 1949. She was also predeceased by her father, Lea Luther; her mother, Hervian Luther; her brothers, Raymond Luther, Harold Luther, and Donald Luther; and her sisters, Evelyn Yarborough, Anamae Walters, and Eleanor Smith.

A dedicated attendee at the United Methodist Church of Denton and the American Legion Association, Mary's faith and community spirit were central to her personality. 

Mary's life was full of joy, love and accomplishment. A teacher for 24 years and an elementary principal for 21 years, she continued to enlighten the young minds even after retirement by teaching special education for three years. Her legacy will forever be one of kindness, patience, compassion, and love.

Mary was also known for her vibrant personality, described as bubbly, patient, loving, kind, happy and faithful. She was a fan of Chicken Strips and Mashed Potatoes, Rootbeer Floats and Sweet Tea and never missed an episode of anything on Game Show Network. A lover of country and bluegrass music, Mary also enjoyed playing marbles and cards, and her favorite team was the Huskers. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, sewing, crochet and knitting, riding her motorcycle, camping and fishing, travelling - especially to visit her family, and kick-boxing.

There will be two seperate services held for Mary. 

The first one will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denton United Methodist Church, 9335 W 3rd St, Denton , NE, 68339. There will be a luncheon following the service at the Denton American Legion, 7226 Lancaster Ave, Denton, NE 68339. 

The second service will be held on Friday, August 18,2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Litchfield Christian Church, 102 Gowen St, Litchfield, NE . There will be a luncheon following the service at the Litchfields Community Center Winters Building, 204 N Main St, Litchfield, NE.

Her indomitable spirit, her unwavering faith, and her boundless love for her family and friends are the attributes that will forever be remembered. Mary Hoover lived a full life, touching so many with her kindness, patience, compassion, and love, and she will be deeply missed.
