Mary's obituary

Mary Elizabeth Johnson was born in Newport, AR on June 16, 1951 to Erma Louise Johnson and Howard Elkins. She was raised by Aunt Hattie Johnson. Mary had one sibling Hubert Clyde Mc Elroy whom all preceded her in death.
Mary gave her life to Christ at an early age while living in Newport, Arkansas. Mary, also known as “Sister”, went on and graduated from W.F. Branch High School in 1969. Shortly after graduating from W.F. Branch High School, Mary relocated to Chicago, Illinois. Time to time Mary would travel back to home for her school reunions.
Mary professional career began at Elgin Mental Health Center in Elgin, Illinois just outside of Chicago. While in Chicago Mary’s union with Roosevelt Mackey she was blessed with her first and only child Nikia Tanecia Johnson. Mary acquired many sons and daughter’s in her lifetime, and she loved them all.
After a few years of living in Chicago, IL, Mary became a member of Jordan Temple Baptist Church on the westside of Chicago. She became a Sunday School teacher and even delivered a sermon for a Mother’s Day program one year. Mary was also part of a small prayer group with friends that would come together once a week and have prayer.
After retiring from Elgin Mental Health Center, Mary relocated to the westside of Indianapolis, Indiana to be closer to her daughter Nikki. She worked part-time as a School Bus Monitor for MSD Wayne Township, two years later she decided to retire completely.
Mary departed her life on earth and went home to be with her Heavenly Father on June 2, 2020.Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter Nikia Johnson Leavelle (John), sister-in-law Alline Mc Elroy, best friends since childhood: Fawntella Maxwell and Bevelyn Parker. Nieces: Djuana Walls (Charles) and Carla Mc Elroy. Nephews: Michael Toles, Raymond Mc Elroy, and Gregory Mc Elroy. Along with great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
