Mary's obituary
Mary Evelyn was born on July 21, 1931, and passed quietly in her sleep on September 30, 2022 at the age of 91.
From hunting, horseback with her brothers in her youthful days to designing and seamstressing clothing for herself and her children; she was multi-talented and always strove to do her best. As the eldest daughter of six children she was responsible for rising first in the morning to start the woodstove burning to heat their home on the ranch. In addition, helping to tend livestock, working in the gardens and other tasks involved in country life occupied her younger years.
At 21, she traveled from her home in Mills New Mexico to Rochester, New York, to marry and have her three children after completing nursing school in El Paso, Texas. Her interest in health always was paramount and she continued to study how to maintain her health and took excellent care of her family in this regard. All of this was reflected in her long years of vibrant health.
Mary Evelyn loved to cook and put great time and care into creating delicious nutritious meal. She also loved to garden and surrounded her homes with beautiful greenery and flowers.
When the opportunities presented themselves she loved going out to dine, listen to music, to dance or to travel. After retirement she relocated to South Florida, closer to her youngest daughter and grandchildren.
A devoted Catholic, going to church services, nightly prayers and her faith in a higher power were very important part of her life. Feisty and strong as she was, she pushed through her limitations, such that recent caregivers commented on the affection they developed for her with her care and determination.
Mary Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, Jose Rogerio and Josefina Gonzales and her brother Pedro. She is survived by her loving siblings, Frances (Lidia), Lawrence, Eloi, Bertha (Sacramento) Baca, and Ursela Arlene Gonzales. She leaves behind her children, Diane Willmont, Stephen (Tina) DiNicola, and Sheryl DiNicola (John Vanbelois); her grandchildren Brian (Stephanie) Willmont, Stephen II and Michele DiNicola, Brandon (Emily), and Desiree Wolfson. She was blessed with two great grandchildren, Wells Dennis Willmont and William David Wolfson along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary Evelyn will be greatly missed by those she left behind.
A Celebration of Life is planned for December in Palm Beach, Florida, and a memorial service in Roy, New Mexico in the spring of 2023 to return her ashes to her place of birth as per her wishes.
