Mary's obituary

Mary Ward Curran, 77, passed away October 18, 2018. Mary was the daughter of Albert Vincent Ward and Mary Lee (Patterson) Ward of El Paso, TX, and the wife of the late Honorable Robert J. Curran, of Valley Park, MO, married 49 years. She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen (Christopher) Nugent of Ballwin, MO; Elizabeth (William) O’Brien of Whispering Pines, NC; and Patricia Curran of Valley Park, MO; grandchildren, Maxwell Nugent and William O’Brien, Jr.; and brothers Richard (Cynthia) Ward of North Richland Hills, TX and Terry (Judy) Ward of Austin, TX. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Born October 27, 1940, Mary graduated from Burgess High School in 1958 and Texas Western College in 1961.

After college and on summer breaks, Mary spent time traveling the world while beginning her teaching career in business at Jefferson High School in El Paso, TX. She also spent time in Greece as part of a teacher exchange program. Mary moved to the St. Louis area when she got married in 1969, and there she raised three daughters.

When her daughters were younger, she enjoyed sewing clothes and costumes for them and their dolls. Later in life, she turned that hobby into crocheting and made countless blankets that she donated to infant and children charities as well as nursing homes. A breast cancer survivor herself, she also crocheted hats to donate to women with cancer.

Mary opted to donate her body to the St. Louis University Gift Body Program.
