Mary's obituary
Mary Carroll-Jacques, age 81, of La Grange, passed away on October 5th surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 22, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Mary was the beloved daughter of Patrick and Beatrice Carroll and stepdaughter of Ellen Carroll. One of nine siblings, she grew up in a large, close-knit family rooted in strong values, deep faith, and enduring love.
Mary dedicated over 35 years of her life to Farm Journal Magazine, where her work was more than a career — it was a calling. She approached it with passion, professionalism, and heart. Outside of work, she loved to travel and never missed the beauty of a great sunset — simple joys she treasured and often shared with those around her.
She also loved spending time with her friends and family. Mary had a true gift for bringing people together. Her door was always open, and her home was often filled with laughter and the warmth of great company.
Mary will be remembered most for her loyalty, kindness, and boundless generosity. She had a rare ability to make everyone feel at home and was always the first to offer help when someone needed it. Her warmth and strength left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted son, Michael, daughter-in-law Jennifer, and grandsons Daniel and Ryan, who were truly her greatest joys. She is also survived by her brother Ed, sister Eileen, step children Jason, Kevin, Vanessa and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; her parents, Patrick and Beatrice Carroll; her stepmother, Ellen Carroll; her brothers Gene, Bob, Mike, John, Kevin, and Tommy; and step daughter Jennifer
