Mary's obituary
Mary, Bertrand 89, of Happy Valley, OR, passed away on October 14, 2022 . Mary was the 7th child born to Leo & Sarah Pinsch on October 23, 1932 in Howard, South Dakota. In 1952, she entered the Domincan Sisters in Everett, Washington. She graduated with a bachelor s and masters degree in Ed. Psychology as well as taking advanced classes in Pupil Personnel Counseling at University of San Francisco. Sister Bertrand taught primary and junior high grades in Seattle, Aberdeen, Edmondson, WA and Pittsburgh, California. In addition she taught a summer enrichment program for underprivileged children in Washington DC. After leaving the Covent was director of guidance at Monreau High School in Haward, California.
She traveled extensively throughout Europe, Prague, and Himalayan counties.
Mary was involved extensively in the environmental movement in Kitsap County, co-founding the Chums of Barker Creek in 1993. She was instrumental in working with the leaders of Kitsap County to preserve the Three Springs Outdoor Classroom.
Her hobbies were working in a flower labyrinth she created on the family property at Creek Haven and writing the family history.
She moved to Ashland in 2008. She is preceded in death by her parents & 7 siblings. She is survived by many neices and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to People of Puget Sound, Seattle, Washington and/or St. Peter Martyr School, Pittsburgh, California.
