Mary Ellen Beechy (nee Mast), age 77, of Apopka, Florida, passed peacefully on August 25, 2022, after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Mary was born on December 16, 1944, only daughter to John J. Mast and Martha Mullet Mast in Middlefield, Ohio. She moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1968. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a homemaker.

In 1969, Mary wed her husband in Sarasota, FL. They went on to have two children, Robert (Bob) and Cheryl. (The marriage ended in divorce in 2005 and separation took place many years before.) Mary and her children moved to the Central Florida area in 1992.

Throughout her adulthood she enjoyed playing games, cooking, and baking and was a devout believer in Jesus Christ. Her relationship with Him was the most important thing to her. She also enjoyed the beach and living “in the Florida sunshine.” She fell in love with Florida after coming to Sarasota for a visit in 1967. For many years she had her own cleaning business. She was a single mother who did everything she could to provide for her children, to the best of her abilities.

Mary was predeceased by her mother Martha in 1947, who left this world far too early, her father John in 1995 and her stepmother Ana (Miller) in 1991. Others who passed on before her include her two brothers, Albert and Lester.  She is survived by her son Robert, of Winter Springs, FL, who was by her side when she passed, her daughter Cheryl (Miller), her son-in-law Jeremy, her two grandsons, Vincent and Alexander all of Mechanicsburg, PA, her brothers Robert, Alan, Bill, Dan and Marvin and her sisters Esther (Hershberger) and Betty (Detweiler).

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Advent Health Altamonte Springs for the care they provided to her on multiple occasions during her illness. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
