Mary's obituary
Mary Carter, born April 9, 1940, passed from this life on April 23, 2025. Mary leaves a trove of memories in the hearts of her loved ones, including her daughters Sheila Graham and Debra Sanders, her son-in-laws Art Sanders and Randy Graham, her grandchildren Justin Dunn, Madison Guard, Tanisha Tilghman, Michael Harris, Danial Tilghman, and Emily Dunn. Her sisters Lula Mae Brown and Juanita Brown also survive her. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Milton Carter, her father, Fred Graves, her brother, Donald Graves, and her mother, Viola Graves.
A faithful attendee at the First Assembly of God Church, Mary was deeply spiritual and her faith guided her life and teachings. Her personality was a blend of confidence, counselling spirit, and a knack for making deals. Mary was unafraid to pursue her own path, possessing the belief that she could achieve anything she set her mind to.
Mary had a zest for life that was reflected in her myriad interests. She enjoyed a variety of foods, with Fried Fish and Mexican dishes being her favorites, and ice tea was her go-to beverage. Mary found relaxation in fishing, puzzles, cards, and crafts, and she had a passion for buying and selling items. A game of cards was a favorite pastime, and she found joy in watching TV shows such as Everyone Loves Raymond.
Her love of Christian music touched her spirit, and she was particularly fond of the color purple. Among her favorite vacation spots was Corpus Christi, Texas, where she found tranquility. Mary also had a strong commitment towards helping people, which was a cause close to her heart.
Among her greatest accomplishments, Mary was most proud of being the best in whatever she did. Her legacy as the best mother and grandmother will be carried forward by her family. Mary’s life lessons, which included loving Jesus, believing in oneself, seeking happiness, and trusting God in everything, will continue to guide her loved ones.
Mary Carter was a force of life, a beacon of self-confidence, and a pillar of strength for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on through the values she instilled in her family.
