Martin's obituary
Martin Vannieuwenhuizen, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 12, 2023. Born on March 18, 1962, Martin lived a full and busy life, leaving behind countless memories for those who knew him.
Martin's life took him to many places with his family. He raised his 3 daughters primarily in Kamloops, BC. His passion was best seen in his love for Formula 1 racing, and he often enjoyed a bottle of Molson Canadian while cheering for his favorite racers.
An avid enthusiast of RC cars, Martin spent countless hours building and racing them, creating a community of friends who shared his passion. This hobby wasn't just a pastime to him, but a cherished way of life.
When he wasn't busy with his love for F1 or RC cars, you could find him in his garden. Over the years he developed a love for growing veggies and he never sounded prouder than when sharing his successes with his family.
Martin is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Samms (Nate Samms) Kayla Vannieuwenhuizen (Ryan Smith) and Breanna Vannieuwenhuizen. He leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Jennifer's children- Easton and Makenzie and Kayla's children - Noah, Benett Leo, Max and Hattie. As well, Martin leaves behind his siblings: Randi, Gwen (Jim) Steve (Mandy) and Lex (Natalie) and countkess nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Christine Vannieuwenhuizen, and his brother, Paul Vannieuwenhuizen.
His loss will be deeply felt by his family, his vast circle of friends, and the RC community. One of his true passions was building that community, be it the young, old or new racers. The memories of his strength, love, and dedication will carry on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him and race alongside him. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
