Martin's obituary

Martin Gutierrez died peacefully on Sunday April 14th at the age of 89 years young, having lived a full and wonder filled life. He was the son of Mary and Jesus Baez as well as the father of six – Marty, Sam, Laura, Lynn, Michael and Christine. Martin is survived by his wife Kayt, sister Trini Porras, Isabel Escobedo, Anita Rodriguez, Richard Baez, Daniel Baez, and all 6 of his children, 9 grand children and 6 great grand children.

He grew up in a large and loving household with numerous siblings from a myriad of sources (one sister, 5 half brothers and sisters, 3 adopted sisters and an occasional neighborhood kid/friend). This large conglomeration of FAMILY was headed by his step-father, Jesus Baez but ruled over by Mary. One whole chapter of his book of genealogy is filled with nieces and nephews, their children and the stories of their lives.

He loved them all!

He was a soldier with the 82nd Airborne. Having fought in Korea, he was the recipient of 3 purple hearts and acted as a jump school instructor for the original Green Berets. He supported his family by working on the railroad and building and remolding homes. He was passionate about creating things with wood, making furniture for his home, toys for children and gifts for friends and family. He valued his friends, especially the ones married to his siblings, but mostly kept to himself as he grew older. He was drawn to women named Marge – having married and divorced 2 with that name. He chose to change the pattern and ended his adventure on earth with Kayt, his wife of 24 years.

He loved his animals and they truly loved him back!

He was a good (loving, stubborn and sometimes irritating) man … he will be missed.

A memorial fund has been set-up to help with expenses.
