Martin's obituary

Martin David Friedman, 85, passed away on May 28, 2020 in Boynton Beach, FL. A graduate in art history from Brooklyn College, he began his professional life as a cartoonist, creating parodies for multiple comedy magazines of the late 1950s. He found his career in advertising, first as an art director, later as a copywriter, working for various agencies, including as a Vice-President at J. Walter Thompson. He was a voracious reader and an avid fencer and tennis player. He was active in a number of 12 step organizations, most notably Alcoholics Anonymous, since gaining sobriety in 1975. He was predeceased by his son William, of Tampa, FL, and survived by his sons Matthew (Chandra), of Sussex, NB, Canada, and David (Sarah) of Hollywood, CA, as well as six grandchildren.
