Martin's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished individual, Martin L. Boston, PhD. Born on April 18, 1984, Martin departed from this world too soon on August 17, 2025.
Martin was best known for his warm and passionate nature. His vibrant personality and infectious enthusiasm made him a beloved figure in the lives of many. He embodied the true spirit of friendship and community, and those values he held dear will continue to live on in those fortunate enough to have known him.
Martin was a proud alumnus of Washington State University, where he earned both a B.A. and a M.A. degree. He later received a second M.A. and his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego. A passionate educator, he served as an Assistant Professor of Pan African Studies and Ethnic Studies at Sacramento State University and Editor-in-Chief of African and Black Diaspora: An International Journal. While there, he dedicated his life to academic excellence and the uplift of his community. Dr. Boston was also a well published writer with his work published in several esteemed, peer-reviewed academic journals. His dedication to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his loved ones. His wisdom and guidance have left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Martin was a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. initiated through Chi Alpha Alpha Chapter on February 21, 2004. Throughout his years of service in Omega Psi Phi, Martin demonstrated unwavering commitment. He served as the 12th District undergraduate advisor; chaired and co-chaired numerous impactful initiatives, including the “March to 2000” Initiative Award, the Recognition of Fatherhood and Mentoring Awards, and his most cherished endeavor, Omega Gents.
Above all, Martin valued and cherished his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Krystal Boston, and their precious young daughters, Kairo and Kamara Boston. His memory will be cherished by his devoted mother, Candace Wilson, and his fathers, Todd Boston and Paul Davis. His legacy will continue to be an inspiration to his brother, Malcolm Boston, and his sister, Aneka Davis. Martin was predeceased by his sister, Marissa Boston. His loss will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
In honoring Martin's memory, we reflect not only on the loss of a great individual but also on the life he lived so passionately. His lessons of family, friendship and community will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest assured.
