Personal note from The family of Martha Meeks

My family and I understand that times are tough for everyone right now. We recognize your sacrifice and would like to give special thanks for your generosity in our time of need.

The nurse said mama's vitals are great. If not for the cancer, she would be in good shape. She is still able to drink and eat, but nothing solid because of difficulty swallowing and the inability to digest what she does swallow. She has 2 drain tubes. One is to drain her stomach contents. The other is for draining pleurisy fluids from inside her chest cavity. She is awake and aware, but getting weaker every day. Her breathing is getting shallower. The nurse called it a pre-apnea stage. She said it will sometimes come and go. Tomorrow her breathing may get better.

August 12,
Although Mama isn't doing well, she is having a better day. She's more alert, more talkative, her breathing seems to be better, and she's eating ice and drinking more than Monday and Tuesday. Her vitals are still good. She is more congested but having productive coughs. She is complaining of itching all over, probably because of pain meds. Her pain level is about the same.

August 15,
Mama's condition hadn't changed much until today. It is by far her worse. She is trying to talk but mostly moans. She's very weak. Her breathing is more laboring and she's having more difficulty swallowing anything.

Mama lost her battle with cancer last night around 12:30 AM. She is no longer suffering though and is on her way to see other loved ones who has passed. Please respect our privacy as we grieve and check back periodically for updates on arrangements.
