Martha Mobley of Stockbridge, GA, passed away on August 25, 2021, of natural causes. She was 86 years old. Martha was born on February 9, 1935, to Granville and Eva Forest in Jasper, GA. Her family were farmers, and everyone had to pitch in with the daily chores to survive during the tough post-depression and WWII years. She loved the mountains where they lived and had a special affection for nearby Sharp Top Mountain. Martha won the Pickens County Spelling Bee while in the 10th grade. She was an excellent student and was the salutatorian for her senior class. After graduating from Pickens County High School in 1951, she went on to study at a business school in Atlanta.
After graduation, she landed her first job as a bookkeeper for Midland Finance Co. In 1952, she met Billy Mobley, and they wed later that year. They would go on to have five children, Donald, Kenneth, Phillip, Deborah, and Howard. She was a loving mother and homemaker, but also worked at several jobs outside the home, including H&R Block, and the IRS. Martha and Billy were also entrepreneurs and operated a general store and a Christmas tree farm in their spare time. After retiring in 2000, Martha spent her time enjoying her grandchildren, traveling, working with crafts, drawing, painting, sewing and quilting.
Martha was predeceased by Billy, Donald, and Howard Mobley. She is survived by Kenneth and Wendy Mobley, Phillip and Vanessa Mobley, Deborah and Ray Newman, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
