Martha Cecilia Ochoa Tascon was born on September 24, 1945, in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. She later married Calixto Antonio Hernández, whom she met when he worked alongside her brothers at Coca-Cola. Their meeting marked the beginning of a life built on love, resilience, and deep family devotion.

Martha was a woman of joyful spirit—always singing, dancing, and whistling her way through life. She possessed a warm and generous heart, and her home was a place of refuge. The doors were always open to anyone in need of a meal, comfort, or a place to stay. She had a special love for animals, especially dogs, and in Colombia she even bred canaries. Her love for nature extended to plants, particularly orchids, which she delighted in growing and caring for.

Throughout her life, Martha helped raise not only her grandchildren but also several nieces, caring for them as if they were her own. She was passionate about cooking and lovingly passed down treasured recipes to her family. Wherever she went, she formed friendships with ease. Extroverted and fearless, she embraced challenges with confidence and grace.

She was the proud mother of Jaime Calixto Hernández; Ferney Alonso Hernández (married to Yvonne Hernández); Carlos Arturo Hernández; Martha Cecilia Hernández (married to Juan Carlos Lara); and María Fernanda Hernández (married to David Fayad, whom Martha helped raise as her own).

In February 1995, Martha moved to Miami, where she began working as a babysitter before starting a career at American Express, where she remained until her retirement.

For more than 40 years, Martha was a devoted member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, living her faith with conviction and love.

She was the beloved daughter of Leonor Tascón and Gerardo Ochoa, and sister to Melba, Humberto, Bernardo, and Carlos Ochoa, as well as Lucy and Ramos Torres.

Martha leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her grandchildren: Carolina Hernández F. (married to Leonardo Chávez), Adrianna Hernández (married to Gustavo Hernández), Carolina Hernández R. (married to Milan Nicholas Pester), Juan Manuel Hernandez, Isaac Reeb (married to Viviana Vernaza), and Daniel and Gabriel Lara. She also influenced the lives of three step-grandchildren, Michael Baker, married to Angela Baker, Krystal Naegle married Mathew Neagle and Erica Perhach married to Mike Perhach. Martha was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Matías Chávez; Santiago and Valentino Hernández; and Penelope and Ariel Pester. And step-great grandchildren Lana Baker, Dylan and Avett Naegle and Reagan and Erin Perhatch.

Martha Cecilia Ochoa Tascon will be remembered for her boundless kindness, her joyful presence, her unwavering faith, and the love she poured into every life she touched. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Martha Cecilia Ochoa Tascón nació el 24 de septiembre de 1945 en Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. Más adelante contrajo matrimonio con Calixto Antonio Hernández, a quien conoció cuando él trabajaba junto a sus hermanos en Coca-Cola. Ese encuentro marcó el inicio de una vida construida sobre el amor, la resiliencia y una profunda devoción familiar.

Martha fue una mujer de espíritu alegre: siempre cantando, bailando y silbando a lo largo de la vida. Tenía un corazón cálido y generoso, y su hogar era un refugio para todos. Sus puertas siempre estuvieron abiertas para quien necesitara una comida, consuelo o un lugar donde quedarse. Sentía un amor especial por los animales, especialmente por los perros, y en Colombia incluso crió canarios. Su amor por la naturaleza también se reflejaba en las plantas, en particular las orquídeas, que disfrutaba cultivar y cuidar.

A lo largo de su vida, Martha ayudó a criar no solo a sus nietos, sino también a varias sobrinas, cuidándolas como si fueran sus propias hijas. Le apasionaba la cocina y transmitió con cariño recetas familiares muy preciadas. Dondequiera que iba, hacía amistades con facilidad. Extrovertida y valiente, enfrentaba los desafíos con confianza y gracia.

Fue la orgullosa madre de Jaime Calixto Hernández; Ferney Alonso Hernández (casado con Yvonne Hernández); Carlos Arturo Hernández; Martha Cecilia Hernández (casada con Juan Carlos Lara); y María Fernanda Hernández (casada con David Fayad, a quien Martha ayudó a criar como si fuera su propio hijo).

En febrero de 1995, Martha se mudó a Miami, donde comenzó trabajando como niñera antes de iniciar una carrera en American Express, empresa en la que permaneció hasta su jubilación.
