Black adults are significantly more likely to have diabetes than the general U.S. population. In 2024, Black adults were 24% more likely to have diagnosed diabetes than U.S. adults overall.
Black Americans die from diabetes at much higher rates. In 2022, diabetes mortality among Black adults was 78% higher than the U.S. population overall.
Black communities often face: Lower rates of health insurance, Delayed diagnosis, Reduced access to diabetes education and preventive care
Lower likelihood of receiving newer, more effective diabetes medications
These barriers worsen long‑term outcomes.
