Marsha's obituary

Marsha Dolene Calloway was born May 26, 1970 in Flint, Michigan to Arthur Lowry and Iris Lavorne Calloway. In 1974, the Calloway family moved from Flint, Michigan to Carson, California. Marsha was the baby of six children, but often displayed maturity as if she was older. The story goes that when Marsha would do something wrong, all of her older siblings would get a whooping for not watching her! She was everybody’s prized possession. Marsha’s siblings say that she ALWAYS wanted to follow her big siblings around. Marsha and her sisters were two peas in a pod--they were inseparable! They fought together, played together, and got in trouble together.

As a little girl, Marsha loved food! She was the “chubby girl” who would always be found eating something! Mc Donald’s burgers, french fries and milkshakes she loved. However, ABC (already been chewed) gum from under the desks at school was her favorite. Her love for food developed into a major love for cooking as an adult. Marsha was the BEST cook! Some of her best dishes were spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, yams, potato salad, green beans and potatoes, and EVERYTHING! She would season everything to perfection. Everyone always requested for her to cook. Auntie Marsha’s house was the place to be for the holidays! Even the neighborhood kids would come over to get a plate, some candy, and the Kool-Aid pickles from “Auntie Marsha.”

Marsha was definitely inquisitive and very creative. She was always curious about the world around her and its happenings. As a little girl, she fed that curiosity with books and with being very engaged in her schoolwork. She was very studious and very intelligent. She graduated from Apple Valley HS in 1988. She aspired to become a nurse and was accepted into the nursing program at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster, CA. As an adult, she incessantly watched the news and loved to shop at Hobby Lobby.

Marsha loved to have a good time and laugh! In the summers, she would take all of her children, nieces, and nephews to the amusement parks and on annual camping trips. Now, she did NOT ride the rides, but she just loved to see the kids smile, laugh, and have a good time. She always found joy in seeing others find happiness.

Auntie Marsha was a whooping professional! Her kids would say that she had a Master’s degree in Butt Whooping-ology. Everybody in the family knew who to call when their kids needed some tough love. Marsha loved hard, and she loved fiercely.

Marsha was fiercely loyal to her family! She was the first one to show up when she was called upon, with no questions asked. She was very protective of her family.

On February 27, 2021, the Lord called Marsha home to be with Him. She was eternally healed from all pain and suffering! Marsha has four incredible children; Tony, her eldest, Marshay, her only daughter, Raymond, and Joshua. She has two step-sons, Daniel and Little Brad by her husband, Braderick Martin. She is preceded in death by her son, Tony Bowman and her stepson, Braderick “Little Brad” Martin Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved children, Marshay & Richard Franks, Raymond Curry Jr., and Joshua Martin; her stepsons, Daniel Martin and Braderick Martin Jr.; her siblings, Eulonda “Honey” Calloway, Trina “Tiny” Calloway, Keith “Pepper” Calloway, Tony “Struggs” Calloway, and Floretino “Bubba” Calloway; her grandson, Brayden Franks, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family and close friends who have become like family.
