It was on February 14, 1970, that Sarah and Marquette Penniman, Sr. were blessed with a bouncing baby boy, Marquette D. Penniman, Jr., at Kaiser Hospital, Bellflower, CA. He was the eldest of three siblings.

He attended Redeemer Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran Elementary Schools and Pius X High School, Downey, CA., where he played football and he was awarded a full Football Scholarship from Compton College. Upon graduation from Compton College, he furthered his education by graduating with a Computer Science Degree from the University of Redlands.

At the age of 18, Marquette, and his girlfriend, Ranisha Mackabee, became parents to a beautiful baby girl, Breanna Penniman.

Ten years later, in Long Beach, CA he was joined in Holy Matrimony on February 13, 1999 to Tasha Poindexter, and to this union Cassidy Penniman was born. Marquette also became a dutiful father to his 3 year-old stepson
Byron Holt, through his and Tasha's union. Their union lasted fifteen years.

Mark was employed for fifteen years as a Border Patrol Agent, and an Emergency Medical Technician at the San Clemente Station. He also was a Supervisor for Roadway Moving Co., a Substitute Teacher for several school districts, a tutor to several families, and finally a Bus Driver for MV Transportation.

Mark received Christ as his personal Savior at a young age. He believed in God with his whole heart. He was willing to lean and depend on God for all of his needs and he was always willing and ready to share goodness of God with everyone he met and would invite you to share his experience. He was not afraid of dying for he knew he would return to God his Heavenly Father.

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, while exercising, the Lord called Marquette home. The Bible tell us "To everything there is a season, and only God knows the day and hour." He was preceded in death by his father, Marquette Lafayette Penniman, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters: Breanna Penniman, Riverside, CA and Cassidy Penniman, Murrieta, CA.; A son Byron Holt, Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren: Kaleigh, Kaylah, and Kamiyah Payne, and King James; A Mother - Sarah Penniman, Compton, CA; Sister - Typhanye Dyer (James), Bowie, MD; Brother- Theodore "Ricky" Penniman (Launa) Everette, WA; and a Nephew - Jordan David Penniman, Nephew - Kasai Owens-Tyehimba, Bowie, MD; Aunts - Peggy Lenora Connors, Leva Laleda Penniman, Artis Elaine Penniman, Riverside, CA: Freaka Dietra Merrill (Mark) Lynchburg, TN: Gail Jane Penniman, Phoenix, AZ; Callie Parker, Compton, CA; Estelle Turner and Mary Crowley (William), Fort Wayne, IN; Uncles - Walter Lawrence (Essie) Penniman, Newhall, CA: and Payton (Jackie) Penniman, Tullahoma, TN; and a hosts of cousins, other relatives and friends.
