Marlys's obituary

Marlys Ann Haugen, 80, of Menomonie, WI, formerly of Roberts and Osceola, WI, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Mayo Hospital, Menomonie from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Born March 29, 1938, in Kasota, MN, she is predeceased by her parents, Luther and Mayme (Johnson) Pettis, her brother Sherman, her ex-husband, Dellard Jensen, her husband, Quinton (Dale) Haugen, and most beloved pets – Khouri, her Arabian stallion, and Tully, her faithful dog.

Marlys was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family and friends. Over the years, many little girls were fortunate to receive handmade dolls and beautiful costumes created by Marlys’ loving and creative hands. Marlys was also very skilled at refurbishing furniture and turning trash into treasure – long before it was trendy to do so. Marlys was passionate about raising and showing Arabian horses and was an active and supportive member of the Sahara Sands Arabian Horse Association and the Minnesota Arabian Horse Breeders. Marlys was happiest when holding babies, surrounded by animals, and rooting for the Packers.

Marlys is survived by her brothers: Mark and David, sisters: Gail, Becky, and Velma, children, Renae (Roger Jr.) Ekstrand, Kristin Govan, and Vincent Jensen, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, Godchildren, and a number of other loving relatives and friends.

Marlys requested a quiet private burial and will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Dale, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
