Marlis's obituary

Marlis Bruns, age 84 died peacefully at the New Brighton Villa Center on May 20, 2020. She had lived at the Evergreen Apartments in Waconia since 2005. Due to current constraints of Covid 19 a memorial service will be planned at a later date.

Marlis was born on April 19, 1936 in Madelia, MN along with her twin sister Margo. She attended graduated from Madelia High School in 1954 and later moved to Reno, Nevada where she married Orville Bruns on January 28, 1961. They moved to Lamberton, MN where they raised their daughter Shirley and farmed and enjoyed growing large crops of cucumbers for market as well as apple trees. She loved canning cucumbers, beets and apple sauce. She never obtained a driver’s license but worked from home babysitting for children of neighbors in the area. She found joy in sewing clothing for herself and family, and made doll clothes which she then enjoyed selling at flea markets. She loved writing and receiving letters and sharing pictures of family and made a point of keeping in touch with her family through regular phone calls as well as cards and letters containing an article that she was touched by and wished to share. She will be deeply missed by those who knew her best. Blessed be her memory.
Marlis is survived by her daughter, Shirley Jenkins and Tony Dvorak of New Brighton, MN; grandchildren, Kurtis Jenkins, Amanda Niesen, and Kimberly Lueck; great grandchildren Connor Jenkins, Treydon Jackson, Guyvon Jackson and Thore Holiday; sisters, Rose Chute of New Ulm, MN and Margo (Paul) Fohs of Deloit, IA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Marlis was preceded in death by her husband Orville: her parents Eldon and Olga Pettersen; Brother and sister-in-law Darwin and Joyce Pettersen; Sister Evelyn Paulson, and brothers-in-law.
