Marlin's obituary

Marlin August Maifeld, 80, passed away on October 8, 2025, in Des Moines, Washington. Born on June 25, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa, Marlin lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family.

He served his country with honor, completing two tours of duty in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Holding the rank of Staff Sergeant, Marlin was stationed at Loring and McChord Air Force Bases. His military service was a source of pride and reflected his steadfast commitment to duty.

After his time in the Air Force, Marlin built a long and successful career at Boeing, where he worked as a supervisor for over 30 years. His leadership and strong work ethic left a lasting impression on colleagues and helped guide many throughout their careers.

Marlin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Russell, also a Boeing employee. He cared for her with deep devotion, and their enduring bond remained central to his life.

He is remembered with love by his sons: Jason Maifeld and his wife Alina, Chris Maifeld and his wife Samantha, Kevin Russell and his family, and Trevor Russell and his family. He also held a special place in his heart for his nieces Peggy Hart and her family, Paula Schmidt and her family, and Cathy Wheaton and her family. Marlin cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and shared a close bond with his brothers, Bob and John.

Marlin brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. He enjoyed horse racing, riding his Harley, and relaxing with Crown Royal or Stella Artois. Above all, he treasured time spent with family.

A memorial service honoring Marlin’s life was held on October 15, 2025, in Des Moines, Washington.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
