Marlene's obituary

Marlene Gillman Labadie (1947-2025)

Marlene Gillman Labadie, 78, of Lindon, Utah, and beloved mother to 6 children, passed away from complications of a stroke on September 21, 2025, leaving a void her family cannot fill.

She was born in South Gate, California, on April 12, 1947, to Morrel and Betty Gillman. She grew up in Yucaipa, California, with 3 brothers (Darrel, Leroy, and Ron) and was actively involved in cheerleading and track at Yucaipa High School, where she was also voted Homecoming Queen. After graduating from high school, Marlene married her high school sweetheart, Roy Bain.  After her divorce from Roy, she made a life for herself and her four children by opening her own hair salon.  Marlene later married Gene Labadie, with whom she had two more children.  They moved from Yucaipa, California to Arlington, Texas in 1984, and then to Pleasant Grove, Utah in 1992, where they spent the rest of their lives. Marlene and Gene were sealed with their family in the Provo, Utah LDS Temple in 1994. Marlene worked at ZCMI/Macy's department store for over 20 years, where she looked forward to interacting with many people daily.

Marlene was the mother of six children: Dion, Brenda Lee, Michelle, Lisa, Danielle, and Nanette. She was especially proud of her family. Despite various struggles in life, Marlene was non-judgmental and accepted anyone she met where they were. She enjoyed the LDS temple and visiting them throughout Utah Valley. Marlene was an avid cat lover and the life-of-the-party at her assisted living facility over the last year of her life.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and her husband, Gene Labadie. She is survived by (spouse names in parentheses) her son Dion (Kristina) Labadie of Vancouver, Washington; and daughters Brenda Lee (Barry) Haug of Flower Mound, Texas; Michelle (Damon) Leon of Germantown, Tennessee; Lisa (Jody) Moody of Lindale, Texas; Danielle (McKay) Erickson of Flower Mound, Texas; and Nanette (Dave) Vagnoni of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

A viewing will be held on October 9, 2025 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Utah Valley Mortuary (1966 West 700 North, Lindon, UT 84042). There will be a graveside service for Marlene on October 10, 2025 at 11:00am at the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery (500 N Main St, Pleasant Grove, UT 84062). In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society in her name.
